the privilege of prayer

it is a privilege that we get to call the creator of the universe "daddy", and to ask him for good gifts! i also consider it a privilege whenever someone asks me to pray for them. to be entrusted, by god and another person, with such a life-changing activity is humbling.

my friend and former co-worker at new vistas, rachel, has asked not only for my prayer, but for yours as well. ...yes, you, if you're reading this! :o)

rachel and her hubby are expecting a baby boy, gavan, in june. yesterday was their one year anniversary of a very painful miscarriage, and they were scheduled to have an ultrasound to see how this little one is doing. (rachel has gestational diabetes which has made for some really rough pregnancies.)

the doctors told them yesterday that gavan is not doing so well and more than likely has down's syndrome or some form of trisonomy. the next 4 weeks are a very critical time for this wee one. obviously, the family is very concerned for gavan's wellbeing, as well as being shaken by the news. will you please ask our heavenly daddy to comfort their family and to protect little gavan's life?

please pray

for this little boy, our nephew, josiah. this is an older photo, but josiah is 2 years old now, and is the friendliest, happiest little boy we've ever known. some of you may have met him at our wedding. his family lives in florida.

yesterday, while his mom, kat, was driving and josiah was in his carseat, he had a grand mal seizure. they were taken by ambulance to the hospital, where the doctors determined that josiah's seizure was due to a very high fever that came on very suddenly. they ran several tests and ruled out meningitis, but his high fever has persisted; and although they can tell there is an infection in his blood, they don't know what's causing it or how to treat it yet.

will you please pray for my brother jay, his wife kat, my two teenage nieces, julia & lauren, and most of all for josiah? pray that god will give the doctors and nurses at the hospital wisdom. pray that josiah's life will be protected and his fever will be relieved. pray for comfort for them all. thank you!

when the spirit moves...

we pray. and that's just what we've been doing for our brother & sister in christ, nathan and tricia lawrenson, and their wee preemie, gwyneth rose. tricia has cystic fibrosis and was preparing for a lung transplant when they found out that they were pregnant and needed to deliver their baby at only 25 weeks. both tricia and gwyneth are now fighting for their lives at duke hospital. god has been so STRONG in the midst of this family's weakness! hundreds if not thousands of people are praying for them as the spirit moves. you can read the story of their incredible faith journey on nathan's blog:
